Santiam Whitewater Class
eNRG Kayaking’s Santiam Whitewater Class is the chance to take your paddling to the next level and refine your skills. The Santiam river provides an ideal setting to safely learn and practice skills with our ACA certified instructors in a class II-III river. By the end of this course you should feel comfortable paddling, ferrying, catching eddies, and surfing waves. This course is a great next step for graduates of our 101 and 102 classes, or any other beginner to intermediate paddlers looking to refine skills with professional guides.
The day begins at eNRG Kayaking’s Mill City shop at the take-out of the N Santiam. We will outfit all participants with kayaks, paddles, and paddle gear before heading out. From there we will head to Packsaddle park. The morning will be spent reviewing basic strokes, rescue techniques, roll practice, and technical river maneuvering. As we progress we will work on more advanced techniques such as surfing, difficult ferries, and catching difficult eddies. We will use the few class III rapids in the section as a training ground; paddlers will have the chance to run them multiple times with safety, feedback, and tips from the guides. The day will conclude with a debrief and personalized next steps for each paddler.
