Hardshell Basics

Kayaking is a language of expression. In order to communate concepts, you will learn the basic terminology for your boat to set up reference points for stroke instruction.

Strokes are what is needed to get down the river. Paddle dexterity helps you to control the movement of your boat. These basic strokes will be practiced on flatwater at our Oregon City shop.

Water Comfort

Understanding how your boat interacts with the water is important. You will work on balance, wet-exits, and self rescue. We will continue these skills in more detail during our full day courses.

Obstacle Course Clinic

World Class Instructors

As with most of our classes, our instructors are certified in ACA, CPR, and first aid. We also have former national team members to teach the art of slalom.

Slalom Gates

Slalom is an Olympic disipline that is great for even non-competitive athletes to improve boat control through our challenge-by-choice mentality.

Paddling Precision

Build on your basic skills by using complex currents to your advantage. Hydro physics is a fascinating aspect of kayaking both inside and outside the boat.

Moving Water Immersion

Our class takes place at high rocks, the closet whitewater to Portland on the Clackamas River. This class 2 rapid is great for beginning your progression into rapids.

Playing Basics

Transfer your flatawter skills from our basic and slalom technique classes onto moving current. Learn how to eddy-out and ferry using basic and complex strokes.

Rescue Basics

There is always a chance of flipping. This chance is greater on whitewater and self rescue is key in case no one is able to help you. Practice whitewater wet-exits, swims, and gear retrieval.

Roll Session

Private roll sessions are a great way to get customized coaching on proper technique. Instructors will cater the session based on your strengths and limitations.

The ability to roll your kayak gives you the sense of freedom to push your boundaries like never before. It also allows you to kayak during the winter when the rivers are at their best.

A successful combat rolls takes time. It is great to take this class more than once until you are able to successfully master your roll as everyone progresses at their own speed.
